Called to Hope

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people,  I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,  and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength  he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Ephesians 1:15-23 (emphasis added)

"that you may know the hope to which he has called you"

God has called us to hope.  Hope in the depth of despair and heartache.

There was a time when I felt without hope.  It is not a good place to be. It is a dark and lonely place. A place where you cannot see the light or the path that you are on.

But thankfully we have a God that is the light.

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
    he stretches out the heavens like a tent

Psalm 104:2

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

Psalm 119:105

For this command is a lamp,
    this teaching is a light,
and correction and instruction
    are the way to life,

Proverbs 6:23

The Lord is my light and my salvation
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

And thankfully he has a good plan and path for us.

You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.
2 Samuel 22:37

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
Your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
Psalm 23:2-4
